Microwaving Leftovers?
A graphic zine that walks the viewer through a method of heating up leftover food in the microwave. Utilizes minimal text as a design challenge to produce compositions that effectively communicate each step clearly and concisely, further heightening the challenge by limiting the zine to 6 pages. A two-dimensional, minimal illustration style was used to contrast the expressive color palette, typography, and texture.
Development & iteration
A moodboard was firstly created to gather inspiration for the visual direction the illustrations were to be steered towards. From the beginning, two-dimensional, minimal illustration was planned to be used, and the moodboard greatly aided with honing in on a style to be the primary source of inspiration. Research heavily consisted of the study of Art Deco advertising design and editorial art, with correlating color palettes and typefaces being explored thereafter.
The development process consisted of both handdrawn sketches and digital iterations.
Sketches helped with initial, rough ideation, while digitizing them helped with refining smaller details and figuring out which directions were working.
